Soon after the release of my last album Coco's Broken Piano, I started working on this album on my phone in the backseat of a car driving through Tuscany. That was June 2023, and after almost two years, I finally finished this album in January 2025. This is definitely an album, but like my last one, it definitely has mixtape vibes. This is because (like my last album again lol) this was never intended to be "Failed State" when I started working on it in the backseat of that car. Whenever I'm working on music, I always have the idea that this track could be on an album, and I picture it on a project, but that project it's on is never finalized until decently soon before the album's release. Because of this way that i make music, ill make different tracks on albums where im in a completely different headspace than another one on the same project. By the time i have a group of tracks I wanna release, i try to find a theme, or, in the case of this project, there was one broad type of headspace i was in for a while when making this project, and so i could identify the theme before even finishing the album, and even swayed some of the later tracks id make in that direction, but this is not the case for the album as a whole. This "whatever" vibe is what makes my music sound "sporadic" id say, and why i have identified that term as part of my style for a little while now, with this project being the first that i made with the "sporadic" title in mind.
So much has changed in my life since I started working on this project. I started performing live under Blaned for the first time, but I also joined a Pier Emo band called Earth Moon Transit, in which i performed many times with them live and i will continue to perform with them and make music with them. Getting Blaned out into the Halifax scene more, and joining Earth Moon Transit, has been one of the greatest experiences of my life so far. Years ago now, in highschool, I would dream about releasing music and performing it live, now I am doing that with incredibly talented people who are also my new friends. In fact, while this last summer for me was very ass in a lot of ways, and while the world could be headed in directions im (and many others) not happy about, the thing that kept me going last summer was making music, working on this album, hanging out with new friends and going to their shows around the city, in which I eventually joined them on that stage when I joined Earth Moon Transit at the end of the summer. This last summer was the definition of that part of reality in which there is good and bad in everything, and this album has the essence of that too, as while I hope you enjoy these tunes and they bring joy to your life as they did to me while I was making them, they are about sad, rough, gross, and uncomfortable topics, with still an ounce of beauty in between.
Thank you all for listening to this album. I hope you enjoy it like i enjoyed making it and listening to it. I am very excited to perform these tracks live more in the future, and I hope at some point i get to see everyone who enjoys it face to face in some way, shape, or form.
